GGM> Thank you for finding the time for this interview with Gothic Girl Magazine. Let’s start off with a warm-up question, tell me about the beginning of Studio-X and how do you remember the very first years of Studio-X?
STUDIO-X> Thank you for having Studio-X feature an interview in your magazine 😊
Although I had been making music for many years before Studio-X formed in 2007, my long-term school friend and I decided we should start a musical project together. Mat Martin is a musician like myself, we both have a background in electronic music and playing guitar. We decided to mix rave music and industrial music together in the beginning, and Mat was the person who thought of our band name.
GGM> Did you have any prior musical experience or was Studio-X your first project?
STUDIO-X> Prior to Studio-X I had many other artist names and previous releases, some of my main artist names included ‘Lawrie-B’ and ‘Project-2’. I had previously signed tracks to many labels including ‘Central Station’ and had been featured on many compilations and radio stations.
GGM> What made you choose the name “Studio-X” for your project and does it have any meaning behind it?
STUDIO-X> I have personally always had a thing with letter ‘X’ and a lot of equipment I use involves this letter. I said this to Mat and he said ”Let’s go with Studio-X as a band name.” To which I responded ”Sounds Perfect”. 😊
GGM> How can you best describe your music?
STUDIO-X> Over the years I have produced pretty much every genre of music that exists, but to keep consistency for Studio-X, I often come back to producing hard dance/rave music combined with Industrial. My largest fan base is within this blend of genres.
GGM> While composing something, what do you think first? Please take me through the process of writing a song.
STUDIO-X> It depends, sometimes it’s lyrics or vocals that give me a starting point, other times I just start writing some music. Most commonly I usually like to produce the main drop of my song before anything else, then I build around that drop and make it into a full-length song. I use a mixture of software and hardware when I make music.
GGM> In the last years has anything changed in Studio-X in terms of your song writing , lyrics or attitude in general?
STUDIO-X> Well I can categorically admit that I have gotten better and faster at producing music over the years. I find that I do not struggle to come up with ideas these days, although I am an incredibly busy person, meaning I have less time to make music unfortunately.
GGM> What would be your dream collaboration, with any producer or musician?
STUDIO-X> Although I don’t mention this person in my list of favourite influences coming up in two questions time, I would absolutely love to make a song with William Orbit.
GGM> In January 2024 Alfa Matrix released your new EP “Cause of Pain” congratulations!, take us through the production of this EP?
STUDIO-X>Thank you so much! Every once in a while, I feel the need to give my fans some new Industrial music. The song itself is about addiction to alcohol and drugs, which I have suffered from at different points in my life. I wrote this song to emphasise this feeling and give my fans a pumping new song to dance to.
GGM> Now let’s get to know some of your influences. If you could name your top 5 favorite bands of all time, what would they be?
STUDIO-X> Dire Straits, Mike Oldfield, Fleetwood Mac, Fatboy Slim and Skrillex.
GGM> What’s next for Studio-X? Do you have any tours, remixes or music videos in the works?
STUDIO-X> I have lots of releases on the way, and a few remixes too! As for tours, I don’t have any coming up. If any promoters see this interview and are interested in having me perform somewhere, please contact me at officialstudiox@gmail.com 😊
GGM>And, finally, we come to the end of the interview and I appreciate your taking the time for this interview, thank you again!!!
STUDIO-X> Thank you for taking the time to reach out and interview me 😊
